Community Engagement

One of our fundamental beliefs at New Stories is that every community has extraordinary, and often hidden, knowledge, resources and capacities.  This is true of place-based communities, virtual ones, businesses and organizations and associations.  Every place we gather to be with each other, for whatever purpose, is filled with the knowledge and resources we need.

This isn’t a new idea.  Many of us have been saying this for a very long time.  We think it is time to take ourselves a bit more seriously.  It was more than 15 years ago that Tom Atlee of the Co-Intelligence Institute first wrote things are getting better and better, worse and worse, faster and faster.  How do we work in these times of systemic turbulence?

How do we tell the story of the change we want?  How do we make it so?  How do we come together, with each other, and create a new future?

Here’s the good news.  People who are part of the New Stories Team have been developing deep capacities to invite others into the co-creation of answers to these questions.  Working in fields ranging from Art of Hosting to Authentic Leadership to Future Centers to Presencing Institute, we’ve been evolving better ways to engage people.

Work that actually leads to shift begins by brining together a small core group who gets very clear about purpose and focus.  They invite the people who need to be in conversation with each other.  A place of deep listening and truth speaking is created where people began to see themselves and their community with new eyes. And then we begin cycles of action and reflection.  Trying stuff at small scale to see what happens and to then deciding where and how to deepen and broaden those things that are promising.  Do something.  Observe what happens.  Talk about it.  Take the next step.

A community begins to build a foundation with its own knowledge and resources and then begins to see what else is needed from beyond the community.

Are you trying to engage your community in a whole new way so that shift happens?  Are you looking to build a new narrative, a new story?  Are you ready for transformative change?

We’d love to help!
