Enspirited Leadership

In the summer of 2001 I sat in circle with group of people from around the world. Many were in their late 20s and early 30s. We were all participating in a global learning village held each July at Castle Borl in Slovenia. This particular circle had come together to discover more about what was calling them in the world. What I noticed most was that many were following a sense that their work was to move to towns and villages and to create local centres where ordinary people might develop a sense of their own leadership.

As I sat with them, I remembered myself in my twenties, when I stepped forward with others to create a community development corporation in the Inland Northwest region of the United States. I realized that I wanted to learn more about the work and life that called to these young leaders.

Six months later I co-convened a meeting in Prague to talk more about what we saw as a possible global network of local learning leadership centres. I realized that I wanted to use my PhD dissertation at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) as a vehicle to begin to understand what was being born.

While the dissertation is complete, the inquiry is just beginning! In the coming months and years I intend to do much more cooperative research around this new spirit of leadership emerging on the planet and the new social movement that is growing here.

I plan on more publishing, more inquiry, and more workshops to help people explore their own enspirited leadership.
